Dermestid beetle colony in Olympia, Thurston County, Washington

Miscellaneous Cooper Point N, Olympia, Thurston County, Washington

Description

Very miscellaneous. Or maybe I should’ve said pets. I have a colony of dermestid beetles which will eat fur, skin, connective tissue, internal organs, and everything but the bones of vertebrate animals. They like fish too! Kind a like a worm bin for meat. You’re welcome to it.
What you should know: you need to keep them warm to be active, and to survive. You need to feed them something now and then. You need to have a ventilated space where you can do this.
You get: The colony as is, and a 10 gallon aquarium with a fitted wire lid, inside a Styrofoam cooler. Fresh cotton balls for bedding. You will need: a heat mat or something to keep the colony at 80° when active.
I will bring it to you if you live within 5 miles of the west side Vic’s by road. I will forward you emails regarding the care and feeding of the colony from a reputable vendor on Amazon who sold me the colony.
This would be great for someone who is curious about animals or for someone who wants to find a way to downcycle meat and to strip bones of pest-attracting tissue for use in gardening and other applications.
